“Smart” is not just one thing.

What I love about Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences is that it recognizes something deeply true about being human: That “smart” is not just one thing.  Take the shy kid down the block who can pick up almost any instrument and play it well within a few months contrasted with the girl next door who gave an incredibly inspiring valedictorian speech.  IQ does not see or recognize these two vastly different intelligences, where Gardner’s theory does. Brilliant.

The classroom looks quite different through the lens of Gardner’s theory.
